Automatic Capitals

Automatic Capitalisation

Use Tools, Automatic Capitals on the menu to turn automatic capitalisation on or off.  When automatic capitalisation is on, the system will convert the first letter after a full-stop, question mark or exclamation mark to upper case.  Without capitalisation, characters will be entered exactly as typed - capital letters will only be entered if the Caps Lock key is down or the Shift Key is pressed when a letter is pressed.

The method used to detect when a capital is necessary is not perfect and will sometimes generate a capital letter in the wrong place.  For example, the sentence, "I like pets, e.g. cats." will become "I like pets, e.g. Cats." If important, the capital letter can be removed by the backspace or the delete key and retyping the lower-case letter.
